TWIN CITIES NAVY WEEK BREAKFAST HELD AT LOCKHEED MARTIN
Minneapolis, 21 July 2010 – The Defense Alliance held its third quarter membership meeting on Wednesday at Lockheed Martin Tactical Systems in Eagan, Minnesota. 125 people representing more than 80 defense and homeland security-oriented businesses and organizations attended the breakfast held in conjunction with the 2010 Twin Cities Navy Week.
The featured guest was Vice Admiral John J. Donnelly, U.S. Navy, Commander Submarine Forces, who has been a key participant at many of Navy Week’s activities. Following an overview of the Defense Alliance and defense-related issues in the region, Admiral Donnelly provided a summary of U.S. Navy policy and operations, and the submarine force. The question and answer period that followed provided an opportunity to discuss a myriad of issues, from defense procurement and budgeting, to the outlook for the future force structure of the naval service. The event concluded with the presentation of a framed print of National Guard Soldiers by Major General Richard Nash, the Commander, 34th Infantry Division, Minnesota National Guard; and Colonel (Chaplain) John Morris. The gift was a gesture of thanks to Lockheed Martin for their substantial corporate and volunteer support provided to Soldiers and families of the Minnesota National Guard during their 2009-2010 deployment to the Iraq combat theater. The state’s 34th “Red Bulls” Infantry Division provided the command and control element for the entire southern half of Iraq during their time overseas.
The Defense Alliance is an independent organization whose mission is to network and expand Minnesota’s defense and homeland security industries.
